Fashion, Art and Football Collide - Louis Bever
FOOTBALL SHIRT RENAISSANCE: FASHION, ART & FOOTBALL COLLIDE WITH LOUIS BEVER FOR LYLE & SCOTT
Football, art and fashion often collide in the most unexpected ways. A moment of elegance on the pitch or images of celebrating crowds may resemble a fine art painting, and this contrast is at the heart of Louis Bever’s photography as he blends football shirt culture with the greatest artists the world has ever seen.
Lyle & Scott's latest football kits and upcoming autumn collection come to life in these powerful portraits. Featuring the hardworking heroes of London's grassroots football scene against striking backdrops inspired by Francis Bacon and Thomas Gainsborough, this series captures the spirit of dedication and artistry.
Commenting on his inspiration and art direction for the project, Louis said: "The project's main focus came after I watched a documentary about Francis Bacon. I used backdrops that reminded me of the British countryside but simultaneously replicated Bacon's and Gainsborough's colours in their various works. The project was great fun and lovely meeting players from various London-based teams."
The new football kit designs draw inspiration from Lyle & Scott’s 150-year history, continuing the celebration of its anniversary year in style with a host of pop-ups, exhibitions, collaborations and more still to come.
The kits themselves are available to grassroots football teams, by application only, as the recently relaunched campaign ‘Kits for Clubs by Lyle & Scott’ looks to support amateur football players globally and expand the brand’s global footprint.
“We are excited to collaborate with Louis, whose visionary approach to football photography aligns perfectly with our brand's ethos. More than football meets fashion, the stunning visuals bring our latest collection to life in a way that is both bold and authentic”, said Lyle & Scott’s Creative & Experience Director, Ben Gunn.
Applications for the kits are now open and can be submitted for your team here, with thanks to Under the Radar FC, Soulseek FC and Top Deck FC for loaning out their players to take part in this shoot.
